To continue the Note One, today let’s start our 《The Corporation》Note Two.
At first I want to introduce a book written by Paul Hawkins–《The Ecology Of Commerce》. As I have not read it, it’s not convenient for me to tell something about it. But from the documentary I knew it change a CEO’s mind.
There was a time when many things were regarded either as too sacred or too essential for the public good to be considered business opportunities they were protected by tradition and public regulation. With deregulation privatization, free trade, what we’re seeing is yet another enclosure and if you like private taking of the commons. There are some business men who creates wealth, that wealth is only created when it’s owned privately, what would you call clean water fresh air, a safe environment. Are they not a form of wealth? And why does it only become wealth when some entity puts a fence around it an declares it private property, it’s wealth usurpation. And I think it just human nature. Just think about it, if what we have done did not affect human being lives in addition to the other creatures, will we think our behaviors to the earth twice and twice? No way.
Privatization does not mean you take a public institution and give it to some nice person, it means you take a public institution and give it to an unaccountable tyranny. To the other creatures, we are giving them an unaccountable tyranny.
Public institutions have many side benefits. For one thing they may purposely run at a loss but not for profits. Public institutions can have a counter cyclic property as well. But considered if the public institutions controlled by governments, it’s probably cause many corruption problems as well as inefficiencies. But in the future, I think those problems is easy to overcome with the help of cloud computing, it’s actually make sense.
From now on, to deal with the corporation externalities, I think some nature resource can be managed by some group without purpose of profits but interests reasonably. As there are many kind people in the world, their lives targets are not to the money but simple nature life. So it is not unaccountable tyranny.
But in term of culture, I prefer market way. If people create a good music, a good painting or something attractive else, they have rights to sell it for money. But if they want to donate their wealth, they could make them free to the world. It is good for human culture development.
And from the documentary, I also learned that perception management existed, for money saving, lowering taxes, corporations have lots of things to do.
By the way, I learned that transnational corporations have a long and dark history of condoning tyrannical governments. The collusion between corporations, especially in America and Nazi Germany is often unknown to the people.
PS: Coca Cola once have invented Fanta Orange for the German Nazi, so we can call it Nazi Drink.
But now in some developed countries, corporations have gone global and by going global, the governments have lose some control over corporations. I believe it’s true. But what have happened to the developing countries, such as China? I do not want to image it.
Personally, I visualize an organization of people committed to a purpose and the purpose is dong no harm. I want to build a company that has severed the umbilical cord to earth for its raw materials, taking raw materials that have already been extracted and using them over and over again, driving that process with renewable energy.
My dream is mounting sustainability to the world.
